A Life Well Lived
Brent Alan Haskins, aged 51, a resident of Plymouth, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, after a brief illness. Born on August 22, 1973, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Clem and Yevette Haskins, Brent was a beloved member of the Pleasant Run Baptist Church. He completed his education at Wayzata High School and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from the University of Minnesota.
Brent’s passion for basketball was ignited at an early age through spirited Nerf basketball games in his home rec room and using E.A. Diddle Arena as his personal playground. His basketball journey began at the University of Minnesota, where he served in various roles within the Gopher basketball program, including student manager, head manager, graduate assistant coach, director of basketball operations, and assistant coach. Subsequently, he dedicated almost twenty-six years to the National Basketball Association (NBA), contributing significantly to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a decade and excelling as an advanced scout for the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Toronto Raptors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and most recently, the Detroit Pistons. Renowned for his dedication, expertise, and unwavering pursuit of excellence, Brent’s absence leaves a void for all who had the privilege of collaborating with him. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Brent was a treasured colleague and friend, always ready to offer support and share his valuable insights. His legacy will endure as a symbol of passion, commitment, and camaraderie in the basketball community.
Brent will always be remembered for his quick wit, gentle spirit, kind heart and spirited family bid whist games. We will always imagine hearing Brent say when asked, “What are you up to?” and responding with, “Minding mine.” He enjoyed many meaningful days on the Roberts Road farm, notably tending to livestock, cutting, raking, and bailing hay. We could not have asked for a better son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. We will miss Brent every day and his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents: J.C. and Harriet Penick and Columbus and Lucy Haskins.
He leaves to mourn, his parents, Clem and Yevette Haskins and his sisters, Clemette (Tomeka) Haskins and Lori Haskins along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Brent had an especially soft spot for his “furry kids,” treating his dogs, Rudy and Winnie, like the valuable family members they are and who also share in our sorrow.
