George Ray Bailey, a cherished member of the Campbellsville/Taylor County community, passed away peacefully, on April 12th, 2025 at Campbellsville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 73.
He was born on May 16, 1951 to the union of Emma Jean & Milton Bailey, which have both preceded him in death. He had one sister, Warnell Bailey Wheat (Billy) Columbia, who also preceded him in death. George Ray was a graduate of Taylor County High school. He professed his love for Jesus Christ at an early age. He could be found on Sundays worshipping with his church family at Pleasant Union Baptist Church, up until his untimely illness required him to relocate to the Nursing Home where he passed away.
George Ray was an avid sports fan. He loved the Louisville Cardinals, Taylor County Cardinals and Campbellsville Eagles. He could be seen riding his bike or doing yard work on most mornings. Turkey legs was one of his favorite foods. His love of music and dancing was very profound, to which everyone can attest. George loved hanging out with friends and family. He loved life and lived it his way.
George Ray is survived by his niece Audra Jenelle Wheat, Louisville and nephew Russ Wheat (Chelle) Columbia. He leaves lovingly his cousins, raised like a sister, Pat Briggs, Louisville, Vada Gaddie, Campbellsville and Vickie Hazelwood (Eddie) Campbellsville. There is also a host of family and friends, too many to name that he lovingly left as well, including Vanessa Taylor who always made sure George Ray had what was needed.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M Saturday, April 19, 2025 at the church.
