Mrs. Juanita Atkinson Johnson was born on June 2, 1933 to the late Ezra and Vernetta Atkinson in Burdick, Kentucky. She departed this life on Friday, March 26, 2021. At an early age, she united with Christ at Shady Grove Christian Church in Campbellsville, Kentucky. She attended and graduated from Durham High School. She was employed at Rosary Hospital in the Culinary Department until she became employed at the Fruit of the Loom in which she retired after 26 years. She was also a faithful member of the Taylor County Civic League where she served as Treasurer until her health declined. She also taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church Campbellsville, Kentucky until she became a faithful member of Jacob Grove Baptist Church in Summersville, Kentucky. Juanita. Lovingly called “Nannie” by her family and friends, loved to sew; she was an excellent cook and loved Jam cakes. She enjoyed sitting on the front porch and was the ‘neighborhood watch’ for Browns Court. Juanita had a home remedy for any illness and was known to her family as ‘Nurse Johnson.’ Juanita was a huge Duke Basketball fan. She was willing to share her advice and life experiences with everyone even when no one asked. Juanita enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and doing a daily devotional until her health declined. Of all of her many attributes, first and foremost she loved the Lord and her family. In addition to her parents Ezra and Vernetta Atkinson, Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Johnson, to whom she united in marriage on January 2, 1959; a son, Roderick Johnson; two brothers, Bobby Atkinson and James Thornton. She leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Wanda (Melvin) Mills, and a son, Theodore (Monica) Johnson; three grandchildren, Antywan Atkinson, DeAusha Atkinson, and Taylor Johnson; great granddaughter, Pavart Atkinson; a sister Margaret )James) Anderson, a sister-in-law, Nellie (Bobby-deceased) Atkinson; a special friend, Maxine Johnson; her loving caretakers, Margo Carey and Sarah Leachman; a host of other relatives and friends.
