Obituary

Mildred Smith was born on August 25, 1928 to the late Lola Fisher and William Johnson.  She went to be with her heavenly father on September 13 at the age of 94.

Mildred accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age.  She lived a life of service alongside her husband, the late, Rev John W. Smith former Pastor of Second Baptist Church Greensburg, and Boone Creek Baptist in Boone Creek, KY.  As the first lady, she made an impact on many while uplifting the Kingdom of God.

Mildred was the matriarch of her family.  She was an amazing wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.  While she had a gentle spirit by nature, she was Bold in her faith.  She was a Sunday School teacher, and a mentor who was always giving an encouraging word.  Following in her mother’s footsteps, she was a member of the Usher Board, Missionary Board and on the culinary team for many years.  She was also a member of the FBC Mother’s Board.  As a prayer warrior, she was a member of the intercessory prayer group and attended Bible study regularly at FBC and during her time at Jackson Towers.

With the nickname “Road Runner”, and without a driver’s license, Mildred was always involved and on the go until her health declined.  Whether it was participating in various programs at the “senior center”, hosting Rook parties, feeding her family and friends, volunteering or helping someone in the community, she was always eager to lend a hand.

Mildred loved her family and friends, she loved people, she loved to play Rook, she loved Campbellsville.  However, most importantly, she loved the Lord

Mildred was preceded in death by her Mother Lola Fisher, her father William Johnson and husband the Rev. John W. Smith.  Three sisters, Florence Riles, Betty Carol Smith and Linda Farley.  Six brothers, Edward Fisher, Billy Johnson, Bob Johnson, Godfrey Johnson, Ben Johnson and Charles Johnson.  Along with several nieces and nephews.

She leaves to cherish one daughter, Althea Smith Jackson.  Five sisters, Jane Groves, Nicola Hines, Wanda Mattingly, Mary F. Scott (Jimmie) and Jean Allen (sister/sister in-law).  Three brothers, James Johnson, Elwood Johnson (Gloria), Owen Johnson (Lucinda) and Lonnie Johnson (Azalene).  And, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

            Mildred will truly be missed.
